Visa Requirements

Myanmar requires visas for most nationalities, typically arranged in advance.

  • Visa-Free Entry: Available for citizens of ASEAN countries (e.g., Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore) for 14 days via major airports (Yangon, Mandalay, Nay Pyi Taw). Check eligibility at evisa.moip.gov.mm.
  • E-Visa: Open to 100+ nationalities (e.g., USA, Canada, UK, Australia). Costs $50 for tourist visas (28 days, single entry) or $70 for business visas (70 days). Apply at evisa.moip.gov.mm.
  • Advance Visa: Required for non-e-visa eligible nationalities or specific purposes (e.g., work, meditation). Apply via a Myanmar embassy; fees vary ($40-$100).

How to Apply

E-Visa (Recommended)

  1. Visit evisa.moip.gov.mm.
  2. Select “Tourist e-Visa” or “Business e-Visa” and complete the online form with personal details, passport info, and travel plans.
  3. Upload a digital passport photo (4.8 cm x 3.8 cm, white background).
  4. Pay $50 (tourist) or $70 (business) via credit/debit card.
  5. Receive the e-visa approval letter via email within 3 business days. Print and present at entry.

Advance Visa

Contact a Myanmar embassy or consulate. Submit your passport, application form, 2 photos (4x6 cm), proof of travel (e.g., itinerary), and fees. Processing takes 5-10 days. Check embassy locations at mofa.gov.mm.

Visa-Free Entry

No application needed for eligible ASEAN citizens. Present a passport valid for 6+ months at Yangon, Mandalay, or Nay Pyi Taw airports.

Tips for First-Time Travelers

  • Apply for an e-visa at least 1-2 weeks in advance to account for processing delays.
  • Ensure your passport is valid for 6+ months with 2 blank pages.
  • Print your e-visa approval letter; digital copies may not be accepted at entry.
  • Use only the official e-visa portal (evisa.moip.gov.mm) to avoid scams.
  • E-visas are valid for entry within 90 days from issuance; plan your travel accordingly.
  • Be aware of restricted areas in Myanmar (e.g., border regions); special permits may be required.
